Agave URBAFLORA® ‘Hale and Hardy’

Xeriscaping, Rock gardens

Evergreen

Agave URBAFLORA® ‘Hale and Hardy’ is a robust evergreen architectural plant selected for its tolerance to cold, drought, and poor growing conditions. Its rosette of blue-grey, succulent leaves creates a strong focal point, making it ideal for modern landscapes, xeriscaping schemes, and challenging urban environments.

Selected to perform where many plants struggle, this agave thrives in free-draining and low-nutrient soils, including shallow substrates and containers. It conserves water efficiently, requires little to no maintenance, and withstands temperatures down to –10 °C when planted in suitable conditions.

Over time, the plant forms a substantial presence without spreading aggressively. Mature plants may flower after around 10 years, producing a vertical flower spike that adds dramatic seasonal interest. Best planted at a spacing of 2m, Agave URBAFLORA® ‘Hale and Hardy’ is a reliable and long-lasting choice for sustainable, low-input planting schemes.

Application

Agave URBAFLORA® ‘Hale and Hardy’ is ideally suited to xeriscaping, rock gardens, urban landscapes, and commercial planting schemes where low maintenance and resilience are essential. It performs particularly well on slopes, inclines, and in areas with shallow or poor soils where irrigation is limited.

Its strong architectural form makes it effective as a standalone focal point or repeated in structured planting layouts. The plant is also well suited to containers, roof gardens, and paved environments, provided drainage is excellent. In colder regions, careful soil preparation ensures winter resilience, allowing this agave to deliver long-term structure, environmental value, and visual impact with minimal input.
